The first step was to gauge how the community felt about important resource management issues like water allocation, pollution, erosion and flood control. A landscape photographer was engaged to capture the nature (picture) of each resource issue. My task was then to design a robust, travelling exhibition that featured the photographs and incorporated a system that allowed ratepayers to rank the issues presented in terms of importance to them (as a measure of how their rates money should be spent by the Council). To do this the visitor was given 100 eco-credits upon entry to the exhibition, and asked to bank the credits against the resource issue/s which most concerned them. The exhibition went to 10 or so venues around the region and captured around 12.5% of the demographic. The success of this project lead to the development of “The Green Rig”.
