Balls, Bullets & Boots

In the Great War 728 active club rugby players volunteered for service, fifty were All Blacks, and sadly not all returned.

Balls, Bullets and Boots takes you from the rugby changing room and into the trenches, where you engage with the players’ personal stories. Discover historical objects, interactive exhibits, memorabilia and dramatisations that convey the impact the First World War had on New Zealand’s signature sport and sportspeople.

This interactive, multimedia-based exhibition explores the impact that the harsh reality of war had on colonial sportsmen (and their loved ones) as they were transplanted from the rugby fields of home to overseas battlefeilds.
